We visited Grandma Whipple's grave in Burley and then went for a scenic drive through Declo to visit great-Whipple family graves. Grandpa is the President of the National Pioneer Society and took us to several of historic pioneer and family sites. It was cool to be able to see where the Whipple's came from/settled.
We visited the "homestead" where the majority of their pioneer sites are located. The wagon below was Great Great Great Grandpa Edson Whipple's wagon he used when moving to settle in Declo--it was impressive they were able to track it down.
(Take noted the house in the bottom middle was Grandma Whipple's house she was raised in)
This is the workshop-they are building wagons just as they did back in the day.
The saloon was my favorite--although it still smells (and I am pretty sure they still use it as a saloon) horridly of smoke and liquor--but it was full of awesome antique furniture, clothing, military and western wear. The American Flag must have been 100 years old or something, the material it was made of was so thin and fragile.
This is the house Grandpa Whipple was raised in (they were truly raised on "different sides of the track"!). The pioneer foundation was able to buy the home and move it a couple miles down the road to the homestead. It was cool to hear Grandpa describe how they fit in it and when they first got electricity to the home when he was 6 or 7.
We had lunch with Grandpa, visited at his house for a bit and then got on the road. It was a long yet fun day. Katelyn was a peach despite being cooped up in the car for hours on end, she is such a great baby!
