Annual Pie Day

Lexi...she is just too cute!
Pie Day started off rough, got a little hot in the middle, but ended in a blizzard so really it was a great day! We woke up to NO water pressure in our house.  We immediately started scrambling thinking our pipes had frozen. We have a furnace and we usually have it on but anyone thats been to my house knows that we keep it cold!  Like when we "turn up the heat" we push it up to 65.  So the idea of opipes freezing because it was too cold in our house was  a real fear!  Then we notice a large surge of water coming down the gutters followed by a back hoe.  Then we turned our attention to a small bubbling gyser in the middle of the street.  So no it wasn't our pipes, thank goodness, but there were city pipes that burst just up from our house requiring them to turn off all the water to the neighborhood.  Sure wish they would have told us about it! So then I went racing to the store to get pie tins--can't believe I forgot those--and bottled water.  So if our pies were especially refreshing this year it was because they were made with fresh bottled water. Yum!  Everyone minus Steve & Jodi (we missed you guys!) were able to come, Halli came down with the chicken pox plus with a blizzard brewing we thought it best they stay home.  We started at 9:30 am this year which was fabulous!  Usually we are baking pies clear into the night but today we were finished baking by 9 pm! Yay!  We made a total of 25 pies! We threw in a couple extra as the day went on so we ended up with more than enough!

Just a few of the pies we made--we made cherry apple pecan pumpkin Reese's coconut-oatmeal!
