The week seemed to fly by yet we were completely separated from the world which was fabulous. If it was not happening within our home we had no idea. It was incredibly relaxing to be able to do anything we wanted whenever we wanted to do it! Raymond had 2+ weeks off to be with us. I loved it. It had been a long while since we got to spend any length of time together so we savored it. We watched lots of Christmas movies, LOTS! We spent lots of time snuggling. I spent lots of nights awake, unable to set Katelyn down for fear it would all have been a dream when I woke. We enjoyed not leaving our home unless absolutely necessary. We love visitors but we also loved that we didn't have any visitors for several days. Being December the entire world seems to be sick, especially this year. Everyone kept their distance which was appreciated and we got to enjoy uninterrupted family time!
We absolutely love that Katelyn will lay on our chest, snuggle right in and stay there for hours! It is the best feeling to snuggle with a baby day and night!
Katelyn is incredibly strong, if she wants to look at something she will lift her head right up and look around. I love her yawns, they are huge and frequent and have a raspy moist growl at the end...I LOVE IT! Katelyn has smiled since she was born, she smiles frequently in her sleep and as she stretches out on the floor!
Katelyn had her 1st doctors visit the day after coming home, she had big yawns since it was so boring. Her bilirubin was still elevated and rising and her weight kept dropping so she also had her 2nd and 3rd doctor visits this week! By Wednesday her bilirubin started dropping which was great but her weight was down so we had to return Thursday to re-check both. Her lowest weight was 7 lbs 6 oz but is slowly climbing! Raymond kept hold of her the whole time, he wanted to make sure she was safe and warm!
She loves to lay out and stretch, this girl can stretch for 10+ minutes anytime she tries to wake up! She LOVES to stretch! She has what I call "stretchy face" where she arches her back so far that her head falls back, she raises her eyebrows, purses her lips and gives a little whine as she holds that pose for a few seconds. It is adorable.
Raymond took A LOT of naps with Katelyn! The first week of Katelyn's life her and I spent every night sleeping in the arm chair in the living room, snuggled next to the Christmas tree enjoying the soft glow of its lights. I loved it. We snuggled together. When she woke up she would just stare at the Christmas lights. Those were my favorite moments regardless of the minimal sleep achieved. It was one of those truly peaceful and happy times.
Briele got to meet "Baby Kate", she loved her and only squeezed her a little tight a couple times! She kept wanting to hold her and each time she would make a peep Briele would respond with "sshh!", she gave her lots of hugs and kisses. As Kate got her diaper changed Briele held her hand the whole time! It was pretty sweet to watch Briele with Katelyn!
As we headed to get Katelyn's newborn pictures done there was a change in plans so we stopped and met Grandpa Whipple. He was pretty impressed by her! So were several little girls who couldn't stop looking at her! It was pretty sweet to watch them gathered around just watching her!
Some of my favorite things. Long toes. Long fingers. Big stretches that involve her entire body clear down to her toes. Always having her hands by her face. Sweet little ears. She has perfect nails any girl would love. She doesn't have much hair but in the back it is actually an inch or so long. It is starting to get more and more red each day! Deliciously chubby cheeks. Button nose.
Katelyn didn't really like her first bath at home until we got to her hair. When we wash her hair she instantly calms and becomes incredibly content. Katelyn LOVES to have her head rubbed. It is like a drug to her, it will instantly put her to sleep and calm her down.
To help decrease her bilirubin we spent some time in the sunlight on the 1 day that the sun shone and after getting warm in the sun this sweet girl LOVED stretching for nearly 15 minutes and just relaxing! Oh man, I just cannot get enough of her! (Notice stretchy face in the top row far right picture!) If Katelyn gets fussy her arms start flying all over just making her more irritated so Raymond will get her to grab hold of his fingers and she will instantly calm down. It is pretty cute to see!
She isn't a huge fan of being swaddled. She will be ok with it if her arms are out and free to move about. We put mittens on her to sleep but with such long fingers they barely go to her wrists. I love her bed-head! Even though there is very little hair it still gets little tufts that stick up and all over, it is so cute!
Due to decreasing weight and increasing bilirubin we were instructed to feed Katelyn every 2 hours for the first week. It made for some very short naps but I loved the time with her. She does sleep a lot and most frequently I have to wake her up to eat! This girl is incredible!
